My-oh-My

Two reasons for the title of this blog post:

1. Come on, you’re shocked that we’re finally getting around to a new blog post! As in: “My-oh-my, Tastings is actually updating their blog”

2. This wine:

meiomi chard

Meiomi Chardonnay! A number of our customers have experienced the joy that is the Meiomi Pinot Noir, but now we’ve also brought in the Chardonnay. Joseph J. Wagner is a fifth-generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since the 1880’s.  Meiomi Chardonnay embodies the character of California’s most notable coastal wine regions. Unifying the unique characters from each region allows this Chardonnay to distinguish itself as an elegant, balanced Chardonnay fully formed.

Oaky, happy and perfect for this warm summer we’re having in North Carolina. Stop by the shop and pick up a bottle for your next special occasion!

The reason for the title of this post? When we bought the shop, we heard a great story about this wine from the former owners. When Meiomi first arrived in the shop, no one was sure how to pronounce the name of the wine. During a discussion of varying pronunciations a customer offered to buy a bottle and try it. She called the shop the next day and informed them: “I know how to pronounce the name of that wine, it’s My-Oh-My, because that wine is so fabulous!”

Wente Event!

Join us on Thursday, April 3rd from 5:30-7:30pm at the shop as we pay tribute to Wente wines! Wente Vineyards was founded 130 years ago and is the country’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery and was recently named Wine Enthusiast’s American winery of the year. We love these California wines and our relationship with this fantastic winery. Please join us to celebrate their wines – we’ll open all of our Wente wines and share the love!

In the video below, Chris talks about the difference between two of the Wente Chardonnays, but don’t take our word for it, stop in and taste the difference yourself!

Ghost Face Killah Review

We tried out Twisted Pine Brewing Company’s Ghost Face Killah. It’s brewed with fresno, anaheim, jalapeno, habeneros, serrano and ghost pepper chili’s (the ghost pepper chili’s are the hottest in the world and the only peppers that can be weaponized). To say the least, it was hot. I didn’t hate it, but I also had a glass of milk after having a big taste of my share. If you love spicy food – this beer is a fun experience.

Fall Events and Back to Blogging!

We’ve been so busy this summer (thanks Lexington!!) and now we’re so excited for the fall. This is one of our favorite times of year. The weather is cool, football is back and its a stunning and exciting time for new wine and beer!

Our next tasting is scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd from 3-5 pm. We’ll showcase both wine AND beer (so husbands and wives who are split on wine or beer can both enjoy this event)!

Later this week on the blog we’re reviewing the Rogue Voodoo Doughnut (and telling you why we aren’t carrying it in the shop):

We’re Baaaacccckkkk!!!

It’s been awhile since we updated the old blog, but we have a good excuse: we’ve finally wrapped up our move from New York. All of our stuff (and our family) now live in North Carolina.

Be sure to check the Tastings website at www.tastingswine.com for updates on new tasting events, and new wine and beer! Now that we’re fully here in NC we look forward to making new plans for the shop. Stop in next week to preview some new merchandise that’s scheduled to come in, new chocolate (!) and of course, even more new wine and beer.

We’re also expanding our events in the shop. If you have a book club, knitting group or social gathering, consider meeting at Tastings! We can host groups of 18 and smaller. We’ll be happy to offer wines by the glass during your event, or we can create a custom tasting for your group. All groups receive a discount on their in-shop purchases made during the event. We also offer light hors d’ oeuvers and entertainment.

Cheers!
Chris and Kristin
